Mobility

The training specifically dedicated to Social Work and Social Work Research is characterized by an international perspective especially thanks to the composition of the teaching staff, which sees 30% of foreign professors, professors at: Cardiff University (GB), Ben Gurion University Of The Negev (Tel-Aviv, IL), Bournemouth University (GB), Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (NL). This collaboration facilitates the possibilities of co-tutorship for the preparation of doctoral theses.

A collaboration agreement has also been defined between the Doctoral Course in SW&PSS and the doctoral curriculum in "Sociology and Social Work" established in the PhD in Social and Educational Theory and Research at the Department of Education Sciences of the Roma Tre University of Rome. The agreement provides for the possibility of student exchanges for the attendance of training activities considered of particular importance; the organisation of joint training activities, including conferences, summer schools and study seminars; the joint design and organization of initiatives for the promotion and development of advanced studies of and on Social Work.

All PhD students are strongly advised to have both national mobility experiences and periods of training and research abroad. These mobility periods may consist, indicatively, of:

  • off-site missions aimed at collecting research data in specific contexts that cannot be reached without a continuous transfer to the territory. In particular, stays at public, private or ETS organizations, Italian or foreign, which manage personal services, with the aim of studying specific professional practices or innovative projects, also through forms of participant observation or ethnographic methods;
  • off-site missions aimed at finding and consulting documentary material useful for research purposes, which cannot be accessed through library services or in any case via the web;
  • training periods dedicated to attending specific courses, seminars, summer/winter schools on topics related to one's research project or in any case on PhD research topics.

The locations of destination and the activities to be carried out are identified by the PhD student concerned in agreement with his/her tutor and are proposed to the Academic Board, which assesses the appropriateness on the basis of the following criteria: (a) connection of the proposed programme with the research areas of the PhD programme and in particular with the research project of the student concerned; (b) scientific relevance and/or innovativeness of the proposed field of study/observation, or of the documentary data that are proposed to be collected; (c) scientific qualification of the training initiative and the academic venue of destination.
