Learning objectives

The doctoral programme in "Business, Labour, Institutions and Criminal Justice" aims to train PhDs with a scientific experience that is recognisable externally, the result of assiduous attendance at university places and specialised teaching in the topics under study, based on both an academic background and a highly qualified entry into the world of professions. In this context of post-graduate training , doctoral students will be invited to direct their studies towards research that knows how to test their legal skills in a well-defined field, with the main objective of writing a dissertation with a high level of specialized in-depth study, with a monographic slant (doctoral thesis), but aware of the economic and empirical-social horizons within which he/she enrolls and with which the design must deal and application of the law.

The specialized training of doctoral students takes the form of their inclusion from the beginning of the doctoral course in a particular profile among the following:

  • Criminal Law
  • Public law (constitutional, administrative)
  • Commercial Law
  • Labour law
  • Comparative Industrial Relations Law
  • International law

The training objectives will be achieved in three phases.

  1. first phase of basic training involves the participation of doctoral students in seminars agreed upon by the Academic Board, in national and international conferences, and in foreign language courses.
  2. In the second phase , the research topic for the doctoral thesis is chosen and assigned, with the assignment of the doctoral student to one of the professors, who acts as tutor; the discussion of the research topic in seminar form and the confirmation, or adjustment, of the topic itself by the Academic Board.
  3. In the third phase , the development of the research is monitored through repeated checks, by the Academic Board, of the progress of the work, thanks also to common seminars and interviews with doctoral students.

Doctoral students are expected to carry out a period of scientific training abroad, according to the procedures agreed with the Academic Board.
At the end of the three-year cycle, the doctoral students, by virtue of their active participation in the seminars and other activities promoted by the Doctorate, as well as the drafting of the final thesis, will have acquired:

  • the ability to systematically analyse the chosen research profile in the internal and comparative dimension;
  • mastery of the main research methodologies of the chosen field;
  • the competence to set up and carry out an autonomous research project in the chosen field;
  • the ability to communicate scientific experiences with other scholars of the chosen research subject;
  • the ability to contribute to the development of the chosen research subject.
